Accredited for beer quality 2022.

After a chequered history of management changes in recent times, the pub was bought by Black Country Ales and opened in May 2017. Picturesque frontage, wood panelled bar and separate lounge area. The new owners have refurbished the interior, giving a comfortable and welcoming feel. 10 handpumps, usually three of these are cider. The beer choice is plainly on view via an electronic display on the wall behind the bar (familiar to frequent visitors of their sister pub, the Wellington in Birmingham). Useful in those cases where you can't pronounce the beer name, just quote the number!)

Happy hour prices apply (for the Black Country Ales beers only) 12-6 Mon-Fri.

A selection of cobs is normally available.

Historic Interest

A former Courage tied house, the 'Courage' sign on the frontage has only recently been removed. However the associated golden cockerel above the pub sign still remains as a relic of those days (2017). One of the 15 pubs in the Branch area appearing in the 1974 Good Beer Guide, the entry was brief but here's what it said! "John Smith. Attractive pub with good beer; cosy and friendly".
