The Silk Mercer occupies a Grade II-listed building just off the town's central market place. At least five ales are available at all times from all areas of the UK including the standard Wetherspoon offerings. Beer festivals are held twice a year, with up to fifty ales available over the festival period. Food is served all day. There is a small patio area outside at the rear of the pub.
