a handsome Grade II* Listed, former coaching inn dating from the 15thC, having 25 abandoned hotel rooms (although some of which are now part of the current owner's flat), a ballroom and a medieval cellar

Next to the Red Lion is the Market Hall, opened by Viscount Palmerston in 1860.

Historic Interest

One of the oldest established inns in Pontefract, the present façade was designed by Robert Adam in 1776 for Sir Rowland Winn of Nostell Priory, here Robert Adam's original drawing can be found.
