Friendly local, the current building dates from 1885 but a pub was known to be here as early as 1561. With a separate bar and snug, the handpumps are located in the lounge, with guest beers. Outside is a walled garden where regular beer festivals are held. Excellent home-cooked meals are served. Quiz nights are Monday and Wednesday and the pub hosts a golf society, football, darts and bowls teams.

Historic Interest

In 1885 the old pub on this site was demolished and a new pub built further back from the road. It was described in Philip Sulley's 'The Hundred of Wirral' as a new inn replacing the ancient and picturesque house It was a Spragg's Brewery (later Higsons) pub. Described in 1980 as a good local on the site of Wallasey's oldest pub with a lounge, snug and back room with service serving Higsons Mild and Bitter on handpump.
