  • Outstanding pub restoration

On the corner of Westbourne Grove and Portobello Road. The pub is named after the enormously wealthy fifth Earl of Lonsdale, known as the Yellow Earl because of his liking for that colour. He was a founder of and first President of the Automobile Assocation which adopted his livery. Now a traditional Sam Smith's pub, restored by them into another Victorian-style temple of dark wood and etched glass. The pub is divided by wood & glass screens into five small drinking areas with duck-unders to allow movement between. There is a further room at rear plus patio/beer garden. Inevitably given its location, the clientele is weighted towards single-visit tourists.

Patrons should note that the brewery's policy is that its pubs are for social conversation person to person. This includes bans on swearing, mobile phones (except for payments), laptops or tablets; however, in the London area this policy may be relaxed or not enforced by staff.
