A much extended weatherboard building in a scenic location on the edge of Chislehurst Common. There are two separate bars of which the lower is the more spacious but the upper is more popular with regulars. The pub is very popular in summer with people sitting on the grass slope outside.

The pub was sympathetically refurbished in 2017 - the interior is brighter as a result.

Historic Interest

Originally called the Millers Arms, the premises are believed to date from the late 17th C before later becoming a beer-house. The nearby windmill was built in 1796 and subsequently dismantled in 1876. The beer-house became part of Mill Place, which developed in the early 19th C as a detached part of Chislehurst village and sits just above the labyrinth of chalk tunnels that make up Chislehurst Caves. The beer-house subsequently became popular during the 19th C with visitors to the fairs held on the common. This was later owned by the Dartford Brewery. Allegedly, the cellar was once used to store the bodies from the nearby gibbet at Hangman's Corner before they were taken away ...
