Two star - A pub interior of very special national historic interest
Listed status: II
A traditional community local retaining two bars with lots of old, at least interwar, fittings.
Front part early 18th century and rear one late 19th. A plan on the wall dated 1922 confirms little change with the public bar at the front; rear bar was the private bar and, separated by a partition, there was a ‘Waiting Room’ – markings on the floor show where the partition was situated. The Jug & Bottle has been removed – toilets are now in this area.
The public bar has an old mirrored bar back painted green with half the lower shelves lost to fridges. An old panelled bar counter with the return section on the right was added in 1922, all the front painted green. There is an old stone fireplace; dado panelling all around the room with benches attached all painted green, and bare floorboards.
The 1922 plan shows the servery in the second room has been moved (date unknown). The curved canted bar counter looks old with the front painted green; some bar back shelves might be old; dado panelling painted green and a fireplace (age?).
