Recently refurbished (in summer 2017). Reopened in Autumn 2017.

Grade II Listed Georgian Hotel (10 letting rooms) overlooking the famous huge village green and close to church. Also close to Long Melford hall (National Trust) and Kentwell Hall.

Historic Interest

Former commercial inn & posting house. A report in the Ipswich Journal*** in Oct 1810 states that : An announcement was made of the death, lately, of Mr J Clarke, of the Lion Inn, Long Melford. A report in the Ipswich Journal*** in Sep 1880 states that : "Married on the 14th at Melford Charles Harris Sewell, of the Lion Inn, to Charlotte, eldest daughter of Mr George Whittle also of Melford". A report in the Bury & Norfolk Post & Suffolk Herald** on 02 Mar in 1886 states that : Mr George CANT, of the Lion Inn, Melford, was driving with a horse & cart, in the company of Mr B. Hurst, Organist, when near the Conduit, the horse fell, both occupants being precipitated into the road. Mr Hurst escaped unhurt but Mr Cant broke an arm & a thumb on the other hand. This makes the third accident of this kind within 6 months; on the first time, Mr Cant broke his leg.
