Worth seeking out, this 250-year-old free house is named after the Foresters friendly society, a mutual aid body for local people in this picturesque area. It is on the Dales cycle route and convenient for the Forbidden Corner eccentric folly garden (advanced booking essential). In community ownership since 2011, the pub's low-beamed ceilings and open fire contribute to its character, with wooden settles fashioned from pews from the former village church. Food on Thursdays is from a mobile fish and chips van.
