Set in the Holgate district of York, the Fox is a pub whose history is linked to the golden age of rail, Sympathetically restored by Ossett Brewery in 2014, it is a blue plaque heritage Inn, making it a must visit for anyone seeking out the city's finest historic pubs. A multi room pub with two fires usually lit. Outdoor catering on a regular basis throughout the year and beer festivals in the spring and summer always prove popular. It has the largest beer garden in York with a serving hatch open on busy days. Always a great atmosphere, you won't want to leave. Please check social media for up to date events. Two star - A pub interior of very special national historic interest

Listed status: II

Purpose-built Victorian public house of 1878 which for many years was a busy local for the nearby railway works (now closed); it retains its old compartmented layout with corridor hatch.

Tetley's gave it their 'Heritage' badging in 1985, followed by a careful restoration that same year (by their architect George Williamson); it was statutorily listed in 1994 following CAMRA’s York pilot study for English Heritage. An extensive revamp in 2014 (by new operators Ossett Brewery and owners Punch) has neatly incorporated an extra back room from a former kitchen. It has also introduced new-look décor throughout – including in the front public bar, losing some of the basic ‘working’ character that historically differentiated this room.
