Cask Ale

An inn has existed on this site since 1585, and its original name comes from the family crest of Lord Derby, who owned much of the local land. It is understood that Oliver Cromwell once stayed here. Now the inn is a pleasant village pub by the village green. After a couple of years of closure, the pub reopened in June 2019 after a major refurbishment. It now has a reputation for good quality food and has a large open area to the rear.

Historic Interest

The pub served as a local courthouse in the 16th Century, the judge who signed Charles I's death warrant regularly presiding there. Originally thatched, the pub was roofed with toles following a fire in the 1960s. The stone door steps are believed to be original
