The Balcony Bar is the smart and relaxing bar/restaurant area of a large venue with many sports/fitness facilities including gym; tennis; multi-function sports hall, 5-a-side football etc. etc. Also has a large separate hireable function area named “Riverside”. Was originally the Vauxhall Recreation Club owned by Vauxhall Motors Ltd. but is now independent and fully open to the general public. No real ales are served.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
